Health benefits for homeowners and their families
Among people living in an environmentally friendly home, there is a significant reduction in frequent health problems such as headaches, chronic fatigue, and some respiratory problems such as asthma or chronic bronchitis.
Given that people spend an average of 90% of their time indoors, where the air can be three to four times more polluted than outdoors, ambient air has a significant impact on their health. Often inadequate ventilation and building materials such as paints and particleboard that distil volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are common causes of these health problems. Long-term exposure could even lead to the development of cancer; sinus cancer has been shown to be characteristic of asbestos exposure.
There is no doubt, therefore, that the reduction in the use of chemicals, as advocated in green homes, allows for the mitigation of the consequences on global health in the short, medium and long terms.
Environmental and community benefits
Never has man seemed so concerned about the problems of the environment. Far from being foreign to this field, housing is the place of an awareness that combines respect for nature, exploitation of renewable resources and well-being of the inhabitant.
For most people, living comfortably in a home means above all being warm in winter, taking showers and baths, enjoying optimal lighting, or having an ever-increasing range of appliances. Our way of life involves a significant consumption of energy, which has quadrupled since the 1950s, and this is obviously not without consequences for our environment.
The ecological home therefore takes into account the protection of the environment and the well-being of the planet. It not only reduces energy consumption and water consumption, but also minimizes the use of community infrastructure.
Building green means building in balance with nature, with a view to saving energy, reducing pollution and exploiting renewable natural resources, which can only be a positive choice for the environment… and for us its inhabitants!
